So, Sheila, are you really JP Holding, or not? I wonder if the admins here have anything to say on the subject? I note the Rules & Regulations do not currently have anything against this sort of thing so I figured I'd bring it up.

When the heats on and it looks like you haven't a leg to stand on, which is the case here, you resort to ganging up and try to eliminate the truth or the source.

In the interest of letting Sheila reply for herself, I'm leaving this open for now -- normally as this nearly falls under 'personal attacks' which there IS something in the FAQs about I would lock it.

Naturally if Sheila is JP Holding, we'd want to have him/her put a disclaimer on there because she replies in the 3rd person about him which would indicate to me that they are different persons, but I would not see any harm with keeping the pseudonym in any event.

I'd be more than happy to answer that question.

But before I do, I have a requirement. Everyone on this forum has to sign a "Statement of Belief" indicating what their real name is, and send it to me.

I'll even be generous and say that only 50% have to do it first, and the other 50% later.

Of course, if the people here DO need some sort of distraction, they're welcome to pursue it.

So I'm guessing that Brian owned you there JP.

No biggies, it's just odd when guys do the 'girl thing' online ... is this the internet equivalent to dressing in womens clothes as Brian mentioned?

Wait a second... Someone named J.P. Holding has been coming here using a pseudonym, and posting 30 messages a day in support of...J.P Holding? Is there even a question about whether we should let him get away with this?

Using a pseudonym is one thing. But using a sock puppet to shill for your real identity is another. If we let everyone get away with that, this forum would end up cluttered with what would amount to deceitful self-promotion. I mean, can I create a new login name and post 30 messages a day about how great Eddie is and how Goth Slut should go out with him?

If this allegation is true (and it seems pretty clear that it is), I'd say ban the Sheila identity and append a truthful disclaimer to every one of her posts (i.e., "This entry was posted by J.P. Holding, using the pseudonym 'Sheila Rangslinger'"). This is a policy we can stick to -- we'll apply it across the board, no matter what point of view the person was expressing.

Using sock puppets = you get banned. It's a pretty clear and fair policy.

I think this is pretty cut and dried, but I'd be interested in hearing what others on the board think, and I'm open to hearing any good reasons anyone has that we should allow this.

If we do ban Sheila, I think that will make a grand total of two banned users since the beginning of the board. One for auto-spamming nonstop Bible verses, and one for employing a false identity to promote himself. I could stand by that record.

Of course, J.P. can sign up and post supportive messages about himself AS himself.
